Florida Green Building Coalition

The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) is a nonprofit Florida corporation dedicated to improving the built environment. Our mission is "to provide a statewide green building program that defines, promotes, and encourages sustainable efforts with environmental and economic benefits."

The FGBC Green Local Government Standard designates Green Cities and Green Counties for outstanding environmental stewardship. It is expected that certified green city and county governments will not only gain recognition and publicity, but also function in a more efficient manner through better internal communication, cost reductions, and effective risk and asset management.

United States Green Building Council

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is redefining the way we think about the places where we live, work and learn. As an internationally recognized mark of excellence, LEED provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building, home or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at achieving high performance in key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 2000, the LEED rating systems are developed through an open, consensus-based process led by LEED committees.

Florida Local Environmental Resource Agencies

The mission of Florida Local Environmental Resource Agencies (FLERA) is to enhance communication, education and advocacy for Florida local environmental protection efforts. FLERA was formed in the late 1960s as a voluntary association of local environmental programs to share information about mutual resource concerns and solutions. Today, FLERA is a diverse organization of state, county and municipal agencies and consulting firms. Our members provide a wide variety of environmental protection and land management services.

FLERA is a not-for-profit Florida corporation and is approved as an exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
