At a special meeting held prior to their regular Board Meeting today, Osceola County Commissioners elected Commissioner John Quiñones as Chairman and Commissioner Michael Harford as Vice Chairman of the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners for the upcoming year, effective immediately.

It all started in 1991 when 300 people attended the Osceola Center for the Arts on US HWY 192. Twenty years later, Viva Osceola has become one of the largest Hispanic festivals in Central Florida, bringing thousands of people to Osceola County.

Osceola County Redistricting Committee
Every ten years, we count every person in the United States through a process called the "Census." This count gives government officials a snapshot of how many people there are and where they live. Once it is known how many people live in a state, the population can be evenly divided into districts, this is called "redistricting."
Osceola County Commissioner John Quiñones met with Former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe on July 13, 2011. The meeting took place in Orlando during Former Colombian President's recent visit to Central Florida for an international trade conference held at Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel.

On Friday, July 22, 2011, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Puerto Rico will perform at the first Osceola County Puerto Rican Day Parade Gala at Osceola Heritage Park. This is the first time this prestigious orchestra will perform in Central Florida. This orchestra is regarded as a national treasure of Puerto Rico; it has traveled and performed worldwide and has received many national and international music awards, including Europe and Latin America.
Osceola County welcomes the 7th annual "The Fair of the Family" event. "La Feria de la Familia" is a one-of-a-kind annual free event focusing on Hispanic families throughout Central Florida and attracts over 20,000 guests each year.

Recently-returned Osceola County School Board Member on military leave Julius Melendez accepted the proclamation, along with recently-returned county employee John Montague and local veterans.

The road widening project of Osceola Parkway from four to six lanes between the Florida Turnpike and Buenaventura Boulevard was granted Substantial Completion on November 24, 2010. While all lanes are now open to traffic, there is minimal work still to be completed which will require temporary lane closures.

Kissimmee Mayor Jim Swan and Osceola County Commissioner John Quinoñes joined administrators from the University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program for a ribbon cutting to officially open the new UCF Business Incubator-Kissimmee at the City Centre located at 111 East Monument Ave. in Kissimmee.

About Commissioner John "Q" Quiñones

Commissioner John "Q" Quiñones was elected to the Osceola Board of County Commissioners in April 2007, and again in November of 2010, and served as Chairman in 2009 and Vice Chairman in 2011. Previously, he served as a Florida State House Representative from 2002 until February 2007.

John "Q" is an attorney and certified Family & Circuit Civil Mediator. He has actively served as a Board Member of Workforce Florida and the Osceola Regional Medical Center. As a member of the Florida House, he served as Chairman of the Claims Committee, member of the Community Colleges & Workforce Committees, Economic Development, Trade & Banking Committee, Finance & Tax Committee and Justice Council.

John currently serves as Osceola County’s representative on the Board of Directors for MetroPlan Orlando, Central Florida MetroPlan Alliance, MetroPlan’s Transportation Disadvantaged Committee and the Congress of Regional Leadership, Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce, and the Tourist Development Council. He was elected Chairman of MetroPlan Orlando in 2009.

John "Q" has been a resident of Osceola County since 1991. He graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree and later earned his Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University in 1992.

Commissioner Quiñones is married and has two children.
