The Osceola County Board of County Commissioners is committed to making Osceola County more transparent to its citizens, and took another step in that direction with the announcement earlier this month of the "Osceola County Executive Dashboard."

Osceola County Commissioners voted today in favor of outsourcing management of Osceola County Library operations, saving taxpayers an estimated $6 million over the next five years. LSSI could begin operations of the library system as early as January 3, 2012.

Today, Colt's Manufacturing Company, LLC announced its commitment to create 63 jobs in Osceola County for its new regional headquarters and product manufacturing center. The center will hire people for engineering and manufacturing jobs, among others. In 2012, Colt is projecting to begin phasing in the first of 63 jobs paying an average salary of $45,060 to be created during the following three years.

On Friday, July 22, 2011, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Puerto Rico will perform at the first Osceola County Puerto Rican Day Parade Gala at Osceola Heritage Park. This is the first time this prestigious orchestra will perform in Central Florida. This orchestra is regarded as a national treasure of Puerto Rico; it has traveled and performed worldwide and has received many national and international music awards, including Europe and Latin America.

Osceola County Commissioner John Quiñones proposed Resolution #11-012R during today's Board of County Commissioners' meeting, which was approved 5/0. The Resolution asked for the renaming of the Walk-N-Sticks Executive Golf Course to the 65th Infantry Veteran's Park.

Osceola County Commissioners proclaimed Monday, January 3, 2011 as Osceola County Military Appreciation Day at their regular Board meeting Monday. Recently-returned Osceola County School Board Member on military leave Julius Melendez accepted the proclamation, along with recently-returned county employee John Montague and local veterans.

As the Three Kings travel to Bethlehem they will make a brief stop in Osceola County for a press conference scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16 in front of the Osceola County Administration Building.

The road widening project of Osceola Parkway from four to six lanes between the Florida Turnpike and Buenaventura Boulevard was granted Substantial Completion on November 24, 2010. While all lanes are now open to traffic, there is minimal work still to be completed which will require temporary lane closures.
