Osceola County Chairman Brandon Arrington invites citizens to participate in the 2nd Annual Pet Parade/Pet Contest hosted by Heavenly Hoofs this Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 6:15 p.m. in Downtown Kissimmee. Last year, nearly 75 pets entered the Pet Parade and almost a dozen participated in the Prized Pet Contest for the chance to be featured on a billboard donated by Clear Channel along Interstate-4.

We are now entering the final phase of our budgeting process. I know I've mentioned it in several of my most recent articles, but September is a very important month in terms of finalizing the budget and preparing the county for the next fiscal year.

Osceola County Chairman Brandon Arrington and the Osceola County Health Department (CHD) are partnering to host a health fair on Saturday, August 20, 2011. The purpose of the health fair is to assist Osceola County parents in preparing their children to meet the requirements to start and/or return to school.
In honor of Independence Day, the Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) held their Independence Day Celebration with their 8th year of Recognition to Poinciana's Veterans.

The Florida Association of Counties (FAC) presented Osceola County Commissioners Brandon Arrington, Michael Harford, and Fred Hawkins, Jr., with the Advanced County Commissioner (ACC) designation following their completion of a comprehensive study program developed by the association.

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Secretary Ananth Prasad today met with Osceola County Commissioners to discuss with local leaders the SunRail commuter rail project. It is one of six meetings which took place today and in anticipation of Florida Governor Rick Scott's July 1st decision on whether the 61-mile project will move forward in the Central Florida region.

State funding will pave the way for work on a long-planned Business Airpark at Kissimmee Gateway Airport after the legislature's $2 million allocation survived Gov. Rick Scott's veto pen last month. The cash will be used for work on infrastructure - such as access roads, utilities, and site improvements on the park, located in the Kissimmee/Osceola County Enterprise Zone.

At their January 10, 2011 regular Board meeting, Osceola County Commissioners approved a transportation impact fee moratorium on all new non-residential construction.

Osceola County Commissioners proclaimed Monday, January 3, 2011 as Osceola County Military Appreciation Day at their regular Board meeting Monday. Recently-returned Osceola County School Board Member on military leave Julius Melendez accepted the proclamation, along with recently-returned county employee John Montague and local veterans.

At their regular Board meeting last Monday, Osceola County Commissioners voted unanimously to direct staff to draft an ordinance imposing a 12-month moratorium on the collection of transportation impact fees for all new non-residential construction or expansion.

At a special meeting held prior to their regular Board Meeting on December 6, 2010, Osceola County Commissioners elected Commissioner Brandon Arrington as Chairman and Commissioner John Quiñones as Vice Chairman of the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners for the upcoming year, effective immediately.

The Florida Association of Counties (FAC) presented Osceola County Commissioners Brandon Arrington, Michael Harford, and Fred Hawkins, Jr. with the Certified County Commissioner (CCC) designation following their completion of a comprehensive study program developed by the association

Osceola County, City of Kissimmee and University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program officials participated in the ground breaking of the UCF Business Incubator–Kissimmee on Thursday, June 24, at the City Centre, 111 E. Monument Avenue.


About Commissioner Brandon Arrington

A native of Osceola County Brandon Arrington was elected to the Osceola County Commission in 2008. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board and previously served as Vice Chairman. He has assumed duties and leadership roles on other boards regionally such as current Vice Chairman of MetroPlan, Vice Chairman of Lynx, Chairman of Transportation for Disadvantaged, Sunrail Board of Directors, East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, Congress of Regional Leaders, Advisory Board for the Kissimmee UCF Incubator, and last but not least currently serving as Chairman of Workforce Central Florida where Brandon is working to bring more accountability to the agency. He is an active member of Rotary and a mentor with Take Stock in Children.

Brandon and his wife Kristen live off of Pleasant Hill Road and graduated from Osceola High School together. You can often find Brandon outdoors taking advantage of our great weather whether it’s out golfing or skateboarding with his dogs. Except on Saturdays in the fall you can find Brandon glued to his couch rooting on his Alma matter Auburn University football team where Brandon graduated with a BFA.
