The Osceola County Office of Emergency Management is hosting both the basic and advanced SKYWARN Spotter Training Classes on Saturday, February 18, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Osceola County Emergency Operations Center. This FREE training is offered to anyone age 18 or over who is interested in becoming a certified SKYWARN spotter.
Continuous rain has caused flooding on local roads. Signs have been placed throughout Osceola County to inform the community of standing water. Stay inside until the conditions improve. If you must go out into the rain drive safely. The following roads have been posted; Pixie Lane, Blackberry Creek Blvd, Commerce Blvd, Pemberly Pines, Orangewood Avenue, Packard Avenue, Crab Grass Road, 441 from Holopaw to Kenansville, Canoe Creek Road, Chardonnay, and Marsh Road. Osceola County officials continue to monitor weather conditions associated with Hurricane Irene. Between this afternoon and Friday evening, residents in Osceola County, particularly in the eastern portion, should expect possible inland squalls containing wind gusts up to 40 mph and 1 to 3 inches of rain.

Osceola County officials continue to monitor weather conditions associated with Hurricane Irene. Between Thursday afternoon and Friday evening, residents in Osceola County, particularly in the eastern portion, should expect possible inland squalls containing wind gusts of 40 mph and 1 to 3 inches of rain.

Osceola County officials continue to closely monitor weather conditions associated with Hurricane Irene. According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida, Hurricane Irene is now a Category 3 hurricane and continues to follow the track with maximum sustained winds near 115 mph. At this time, there are no watches or warnings for Florida.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida, Hurricane Irene is now a Category 2 hurricane and continues to move in the direction of the Florida peninsula with maximum sustained winds near 100 mph. It is still too early to tell the exact impact Hurricane Irene will have on Florida.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida, Hurricane Irene is a Category 1 hurricane and continues to move in the direction of the Florida peninsula with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.

Osceola County Office of Emergency Management is hosting this year's annual Amateur Radio Field Day event on June 25 & 26, 2011. The weekend event is free, open to the public and will be held on Saturday, June 25 from 2:00 p.m. to Sunday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Osceola County Emergency Operations Center located at 2586 Partin Settlement Road in Kissimmee (behind the Osceola County Government Center on U.S. 192 at Partin Settlement Road).

Osceola County officials invite citizens to join them at the 5th Annual Four Corners Hurricane Expo on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 10 AM to 2 PM at Cagan Crossings Community Library located at 16729 Cagan Oaks in Clermont (on U.S. Highway 27 about one-half mile north of the U.S. 192 intersection on the left).

This week Osceola County is participating in the Florida Division of Emergency Management's statewide hurricane exercise. On Tuesday, county staff, along with community partners, met and discussed planning timelines and challenges associated with hurricanes.

Osceola County Extension Services 4-H Club was a recent recipient of an Esri grant. The grant consists of geographic information system (GIS) technology and training to 4-H clubs across the United States and assists youth in their research of accurate geographic information to make decisions. GIS technology provides asset/data management, planning and analysis, and situational awareness.

With the approach of severe weather and hurricane season, Osceola County Emergency Management Director, David Casto, teamed up with Osceola Council on Aging Director Beverly Hoagland to provide NOAA All Hazard Radios to Meals on Wheels recipients and other homebound citizens.
