Osceola County Board of County Commissioners Declares October "Breast Cancer Awareness Month"

Osceola County, Florida - The Osceola County Board of County Commissioners joined with the Osceola County Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services to declare October "Breast Cancer Awareness Month."

Fire Chiefs from Osceola County, the City of Kissimmee, and the City of St. Cloud were united today as the County Commission presented a proclamation in support of their efforts to raise money for breast cancer research. The cities will also declare October "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" during their meetings later this week.

"The fact that one in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime makes our efforts so important," said Osceola County Fire Chief Richard Collins. "Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer."

"Raising money for research of breast cancer has fast become one of the most important causes we support," said Osceola County Fire Department Union President Adam Seithel.

"The importance of proper screening and testing for breast cancer can help save lives, so please consult your doctors and follow their recommendations," added Chief Collins.
