Parents are invited to Seat Check Events during the week of September 18 - 24
Each year, Child Passenger Safety Week (CPS) is celebrated across the country to remind parents and caregivers of the need to keep children of all ages properly restrained in seats that meet their weight and height requirements. This year Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be at Starling Chevrolet, located at the corner of Donegan and US 441, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20th to ensure that families are using the right restraints - whether car seat, booster seat, or seat belt.

Osceola County Fire Rescue is conducting free child car seat safety checks on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Starling Chevrolet located at 2500 N. Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee (enter from Donegan Avenue).

The recent rainfall amounts have allowed vegetation to grow and reduce the immediate threat of wildfires. In light of that, the burn ban in Osceola County has been lifted as of today, according to Osceola County Fire Chief Richard Collins and Division of Forestry Supervisor Tom Donohoe.

Osceola County Fire Rescue crews continue to work through the rubble of the Vacation Lodge Maingate Motel to extinguish smoldering hot spots. Fire Marshal personnel from the state and county continue their investigation of cause and origin. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be released at that time.

Due to recent rainfall amounts resulting in a reduction of the immediate threat of wildfires, Osceola County Fire Chief Rich Collins is lifting the fireworks ban in unincorporated Osceola County, effective immediately. However, the burn ban is still in effect at this time but may be lifted in the near future as conditions continue to improve.

This afternoon, the State Fire Marshal completed the on-scene investigation of the fire that destroyed the Vacation Lodge Maingate Motel Sunday at 7514 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway. Samples have been taken and interviews will be made in the determination of the cause and origin.

Due to an overnight fire at the Vacation Lodge located at 7514 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (West U.S. 192), Florida Highway Patrol has closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of West 192 at Reedy Creek Boulevard while firefighters continue to battle the fire.

Due to current dry weather conditions and the lack of significant rainfall predicted in the foreseeable future, Osceola County Fire Chief Rich Collins has issued a burn ban for unincorporated Osceola County. Osceola County Burn Ban Ordinance #09-12 authorizes Fire Chief Collins to impose the burn ban whenever the Keetch-Byran Drought Index (KBDI) reaches 500 or above.
