  • 1.01) What is a furlough?

    A furlough is mandatory unpaid leave from work.

  • 1.02) What is the diference between a furlough and a salary reduction?

    A furlough is different from a traditional salary reduction in that a furlough:

    • provides the employee with a day off from work in exchange for reduced pay
    • results in additional savings to the County from office closures
    • raises citizen awareness of County budget shortfalls
    • is usually temporary in nature
  • 1.03) Will all County employees participate in the furlough?

    All employees under the Board of County Commissioners (B.O.C.C.) are subject to the furlough. However, the County Manager may exempt certain job classifications of employees from the furlough based on business necessity.

  • 1.05) Will all B.O.C.C. offices and facilities be closed on the designated furlough days?

    Generally speaking, most B.O.C.C. offices will be closed on the designated furlough days. However, in cases of business necessity, certain B.O.C.C. facilities may remain open or may close on an alternative furlough day.
