The Agricultural/Marine Unit, supervised by a Sergeant, is responsible for investigating crimes at plant nurseries, citrus groves, vegetable farms, ranches; complaints of animal abuse/neglect, thefts of heavy equipment, and metal thefts. The unit is responsible for patrolling lakes and waterways in the county. The unit handles boating accidents and investigates boating-related crimes.
The Community Volunteer Patrol, a citizen-based patrol program where residents in a community can volunteer to assist law enforcement with monitoring and patrolling neighborhoods in specialty marked vehicles. Volunteers will be there to assist those who need help and they will have the capability to notify law enforcement of incidents that may occur.
The Court Services Section, which includes the Civil Process, Court Deputy and Warrants Units, is responsible for the service of all court orders and subpoenas. Administrative staff handles data entry, clerical support, mail functions, and coordinates appearance dates between the judicial system and agency personnel.
The Sheriff's Explorer Post is designed to encourage young people 14-21 years old, who are interested in law enforcement as a career. Explorer advisors mentor, train, and serve as role models.
The Mounted Patrol Unit, supervised by a Sergeant, provides an excellent tool for search and rescue operations using the advantages of height for increased visibility. Mounted teams can maneuver through narrow, dense and wet areas where vehicles cannot operate and foot travel is dangerous. The unit provides horse and rider teams for special events, search and rescue, community policing and other directed enforcement activities to augment Patrol, K-9 and Aviation in the performance of law enforcement services.
Osceola Sheriff's Crossing Guards perform an important function by helping young students cross the streets safely on their way to and from school.
The Reserve/Auxiliary Unit is composed of Reserve and Auxiliary deputies who are volunteers and who devote a requisite number of hours to support the Sheriff's Office by performing uniform patrol and other duties.
Self Defense Awareness Familiarization Exchange or SAFE is designed to educate women on how to protect themselves if they should become a victim. The 2-hour class teaches that 90% of self-defense is awareness, risk reduction and avoiding confrontation, while only 10% is physical.
The Sheriff's Adventure Camp helps young people understand individual differences, improve their self esteem and self discipline, and learn how to communicate.
The more than 700 men and women of the Sheriff’s office strive to maintain the highest professional standards while delivering a full range of community based law enforcement and crime prevention programs to the citizens of Osceola county.
The Community Response Teams, East and West each supervised by a Sergeant, pro-activity work with the community to solve problems and prevent crime. The teams utilize mountain bikes for patrolling neighborhoods and business areas, and for closer contacts with the community.
The Aviation Unit, supervised by a sergeant, operates and mainteains the Sheriff's Office airplane and helicopters. These aircraft are available to assist operational units and for transporting persons on a limited basis.
The unit assists with enforcement of traffic laws which reduce traffic accidents, provides various types of escorts and operates at a zero tolerance level against driving under the influence.
The Teen Driver Program is designed to provide teenagers more knowledge and hands-on experience to reduce their chances of being in an auto accident. Osceola County was the first county in Central Florida to implement the program. The two-day curriculum includes a 4-hour classroom learning session and an 8-hour vehicle operations activity on a training course.
