The SFWMD manages and protects water resources of the South Florida region by balancing and improving water quality, flood control, natural systems, and water supply. The water management system in Osceola County consists of roughly 5 water control structures, 3 lock and spillways and many culverts and weirs that can be utilized by boaters to travel from Lake Tohopekaliga, through Lake Kissimmee, south to Lake Okeechobee. The SFWMD can control water levels in the lakes through this system of control structures.
