The Osceola Council on Aging is opening a "Cooling Center" beginning Thursday, June 17th from 11:30am until 4:30pm at the Barney E. Veal Center, 700 Generation Point, Kissimmee.
Individuals who have no ready access to a cool environment, and particularly those at risk for heat-related illness, should consider using the cooling center during a heat wave. When the heat index is predicted to be dangerously high, many communities open cooling centers in air-conditioned facilities to offer people relief from the heat. The Cooling Center offered by the Council on Aging will be open until the weather heat index subsides.
Cold water will also be available.
Children must be supervised by their parents, grandparents or guardians.
Call 407-846-8532 for further information during this or future heat emergencies to find the availability of the cooling center.
