In observance of Memorial Day, the Osceola County Courthouse and Osceola County Administration offices, including libraries and the Bass Road Resource Recovery Site, will be closed on Monday, May 28th. For residents of unincorporated Osceola County, curbside garbage collection will continue as scheduled. Offices will re-open on Tuesday, May 29th.

Osceola County is partnering with a number of local organizations to host a first of its kind “Meet and Greet” event for contractors May 30 at Osceola Heritage Park. “We are creating a one-stop shop by bringing together prime contractors who do business with the county, the school district and Disney. This event will be a great networking opportunity,” said Commission Chairman John Quiñones. “It should open doors for our local subcontractors seeking work on bigger projects.”

Welbro/Quinn Constructors and Osceola County Economic Development Department will host a construction job fair to fill positions related to the West Osceola Library project. The event will take place on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Osceola Cooperative Extension Services from 9 to 11 a.m.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will treat a portion of Lake Cypress for hydrilla during the week of May 7, 2012, weather permitting. The treatment will consist of about 690 acres of hydrilla in the southeast portion of Lake Cypress.

Residents have approximately two weeks to comment on new preliminary flood maps that show which areas throughout the county are at-risk for flooding. Approximately 11,000 properties have been affected, many in the Poinciana community.

A significant increase in the number of permit and license applications submitted via the Internet and fax is resulting in a change in office hours for the Osceola County Permitting Intake Office, officials said. The office, located at 1 Courthouse Square, Suite 1400, will close at 4 p.m. daily starting Monday.

Viewing of a popular nesting site for American bald eagles will again be accessible because the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved an agreement with the developer of the property this week that provides for safety standards for the public and complies with federal laws regarding the protected species.
Action by an Osceola County Corrections employee helped identify a terror suspect. Amber Juba, the Assistant Supervisor in the Central Processing Unit, was honored as Osceola County's Employee of the Month for April after she flagged an inmate during booking and notified federal authorities. The suspect was a "positive match" for a known or suspected terrorist, according to the national Terrorist Screening Center (TSC).

The (Osceola County) Museum of Military History is now open, welcoming both visitors and locals to experience the nation's military heritage. Located at 5210 W. U.S. Highway 192, Kissimmee, the 10,000-square-foot museum offers guided and self-guided tours of its interactive displays and exhibits of historical photos, uniforms and more highlighting the contributions of all of the armed forces during conflicts spanning the Civil War to the present.

Osceola County Commissioners recently moved forward with steps to improve a section of its East U.S. Highway 192 corridor. Commissioners unanimously approved establishment of an East U.S. 192 Community Redevelopment Agency board for a 2.8-mile segment of U.S. 192 stretching from Kissimmee City limits to Partin Settlement Road.
