Osceola County began participating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in the year 1982 with the first effective Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood map in place. The main objective of the program is to protect citizens life and health; to control the alteration of natural floodplains; and to insure that potential home buyers are notified if a property is located in a flood hazard area.
This video, recorded on September 8, 2011, gives residents a general overview in regards to the New Flood Hazard Maps coming to Osceola County. The general overview gives information on flood maps, flood zones, flood insurance requirements, mandatory flood insurance requirements, appeals & protests, and how to view the preliminary maps.
