Back in the early 1990s, there were few, if any, sidewalks along W. Hwy. 192. Tourists walked along ditches at the side of the road to get from property to property. Long stretches of the road were either barren of vegetation or even worse, overgrown with uncut grass or weeds. In 1994, the property owners agreed to tax themselves by creating the West 192 Redevelopment District. They viewed it as more than a beautification project... it was a marketing plan.

Through the sweat and tears of many dedicated individuals and the cooperative spirit between property owners and various government agencies, we now have an award-winning redevelopment corridor.

However, we know that we cannot rest on our laurels. Current economic conditions are creating new challenges for the district. While still ensuring that the redevelopment improvements are properly maintained, your West 192 Redevelopment Advisory Board's primary focus is now on other concepts that can be viewed as creative marketing plans. These include establishing minimum (property) maintenance standards, government economic development incentives, and transit options for the corridor.

Our role is still as an advisor to the Board of County Commissioners. Our goal is the well-being of the corridor, and we will continue to dedicate ourselves to making those recommendations that advance that goal.
