Simpson Road Improvement Project Phases 2, 3, and 4

Simpson Road Phases 2, 3, and 4 Map

The design for this Project is based on the results of the Project Development and Environment Study (PD&E) that was performed for the County, which included presenting alternatives at a Public Workshop and a Preferred Alternative at a Public Hearing. The need for the Project was based on capacity and safety, as well as improving connections to the city of Kissimmee, Orlando International Airport (OIA), and the emerging NeoCity and Medical City technology clusters. The roadway is currently over-capacity resulting in significant delays at signalized intersections.

The recommended typical section for reconstructing Simpson Road from 2-lanes to a divided 4-lane roadway includes a 26-foot median and a 10-foot shared use path for bicycles and pedestrians on each side of the roadway. The Project length is 4.2-miles from US 192 to Myers Road and includes a bridge over the Florida Turnpike that will be replaced by the Florida Turnpike Enterprise with a 4-lane bridge.

Seven stormwater ponds are included in the Project’s design, as well as street lighting, upgraded signalized intersections, and areas preserved for landscaping.  Right of way acquisition will be required for certain areas along the roadway and for the new pond sites, and will be further identified as design plans progress beyond the 60% phase.
