County Announces Test of Flood Alert Warning System

Osceola County, Florida – The Osceola County Office of Natural Resources and the Office of Emergency Management will conduct a test of the Flood Alert Notification System between September 15 and October 15, 2020.
The purpose is to test the County’s alerting capability for all residents. In previous tests, only the Special Flood Hazard Areas received the alert; however, testing the new system countywide provides an enhanced opportunity to fully test the system. This test is part of the Community Rating System criteria, which brings lower flood insurance rates to the citizens. The testing will include residents in both the City of Kissimmee and the City of Saint Cloud.
Residents will receive a short telephone message. The message will state; this is a test, followed by information on what will occur if alerting is ever required. Since the system will only act upon phone numbers listed as public, not everyone will receive this message. In the event of a real emergency, the system will call all phone numbers, including those listed as private.
The testing ensures the County has a viable way to notify residents through the County Mass Notification System known as Alert Osceola powered by Everbridge. In the past, some have referred to this system as a Reverse 911 system; however, that name is a brand of alerting systems.

El Condado Anuncia Prueba del Sistema de Alerta de Inundaciones
Condado de Osceola, Florida – La oficina del Condado de Osceola de Recursos Naturales y la oficina de Manejo de Emergencias realizará una prueba del Sistema de Alerta de inundación entre el 15 de septiembre de 2020 y el 15 de octubre de 2020.
El propósito es poner a prueba la capacidad de alerta del condado para todos los residentes. En pruebas anteriores, solo las zonas especiales de peligro para inundaciones recibieron la alerta; sin embargo, probar el nuevo sistema en todo el condado ofrece una oportunidad mejorada para probar completamente el sistema. Esta prueba forma parte de los criterios del Sistema de Clasificación Comunitaria (CRS, por sus siglas en inglés) que trae menores tasas de seguro de inundación a los ciudadanos. La prueba incluirá a los residentes en las ciudades de Kissimmee y St. Cloud.
Los residentes recibirán un mensaje corto. Se indicará en el mensaje; esta es una prueba, seguida por información sobre lo que ocurrirá si la alerta en algún momento es necesaria. Puesto que el sistema sólo actuará sobre los números de teléfono listados como públicos, no todo el mundo recibirá este mensaje. En caso de una emergencia real, el sistema llamará a todos los números de teléfono, incluyendo los enumerados como privados.
La prueba asegura que el Condado tiene una forma viable para notificar a los residentes a través del Sistema de Notificación Masiva. En el pasado, algunos se han referido a este sistema como un Sistema Reversible del 911; sin embargo, ese nombre es una marca de los sistemas de alerta.
