Janer, Grieb Sworn-in as Osceola County Commissioners

Osceola County, Florida – Osceola County Commissioners Viviana Janer (District 2) and Cheryl Grieb (District 4) took the oath of office for their second 4-year terms on Tuesday.

The ceremony was held in the third floor courtroom of the Osceola County Historic Courthouse. Looking ahead, both commissioners talked about unfinished business and goals for their second terms.

“It’s humbling to receive such overwhelming support from residents and it is an honor to continue to serve them,” said Janer. “I’m committed to improving residents’ lives by making Osceola County a better place to live work and play. That means being a champion for transportation, pushing for the creation of more affordable housing and supporting economic development, so that we create more high-wage jobs.”

Janer is the first Latina and only the third Hispanic ever to be elected to the 5-person board. She has a background in corporate accounting and was sworn-in by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

Grieb, the current Vice Chair of the board and a Realtor, was sworn-in by Judge Carol Draper.

 “I take pride in what I accomplished in my first term. It’s energizing to be able to take this oath and to focus on what lies ahead,” said Grieb, a former Kissimmee City Commissioner, who has lived most of her life in the County. “Managing our budget while continuing to move the needle on key quality of life indicators is vital. Over the next four years, I want to continue to advocate for residents: protecting our natural resources, while providing continued educational and career opportunities for all.”

When they were first elected in 2014, Janer and Grieb made history – the first time two women have served on the Board of County Commissioners at the same time.

“Commissioner Janer and Commissioner Grieb have proven that they have unique perspectives that enhance our decision-making process. There’s no doubt in my mind that this board will continue to find solutions that positively impact our citizens,” said Commission Chairman Fred Hawkins, Jr.

Two years later Peggy Choudhry joined Grieb and Janer as the Commissioner for District 1 – the first time the board was comprised of a majority of women, something that will continue for at least two more years.

The Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to select a new chair and vice chair on December 3.

Janer, Grieb juramentadas como Comisionadas del Condado de Osceola

Condado de Osceola, Florida – Las comisionados del Condado de Osceola Viviana Janer (Distrito 2) y Cheryl Grieb (Distrito 4) juramentaron el martes  para su segundo término de cuatro años.

La ceremonia fue celebrada en el tercer piso de la sala de la Corte Histórica del Condado Osceola.  Mirando hacia el futuro, ambas comisionadas hablaron sobre asuntos inconclusos y metas para su segundo término.

"Recibo este apoyo abrumador de los residentes con mucha alegría y humildad y es un honor seguir sirviéndoles", dijo Janer. "Estoy comprometida a mejorar la vida de los residentes haciendo del Condado de Osceola un mejor lugar para vivir, trabajar y disfrutar. Eso significa ser un campeón de la transportación, impulsar la creación de viviendas más asequibles y apoyar el desarrollo económico, de modo que proveamos más empleos de alto salario”.

Janer es la primera Latina y sólo la tercera hispana que ha sido elegida en la junta de 5 personas. Tiene antecedentes en contabilidad corporativa y fue juramentada por el alcalde de Orlando, Buddy Dyer.

Grieb, es la actual vicepresidenta de la Junta y un agente de bienes raíces, fue juramentada por la jueza Carol Draper.

"Me siento orgullosa por lo que he logrado en mi primer semestre. Es energizante el poder tomar este juramento y centrarme en lo que está por venir", dijo Grieb, una ex Comisionada de la Ciudad de Kissimmee, que ha vivido la mayor parte de su vida en el condado. "El manejar nuestro presupuesto mientras seguimos moviendo los indicadores claves de calidad de vida que son vitales. En los próximos cuatro años, quiero continuar abogando por los residentes: protegiendo nuestros recursos naturales, mientras brindamos oportunidades educativas y de carrera continua para todos."

Cuando fueron elegidas por primera vez en el 2014, Janer y Grieb hicieron historia – la primera ocasión en que dos mujeres han servido en la Junta de Comisionados del Condado al mismo tiempo.

"Las Comisionadas Janer y Grieb han demostrado que tienen perspectivas únicas que mejoran nuestro proceso de toma de decisiones. No hay duda en mi mente de que esta junta seguirá encontrando soluciones que impacten positivamente a nuestros ciudadanos," dijo Fred Hawkins, Jr., Presidente de la Comisión.

Dos años más tarde, Peggy Choudhry se unió a Grieb y Janer como Comisionada para el Distrito 1 – la primera vez que la junta estaba formada por una mayoría de mujeres, algo que continuará por lo menos dos años más.

La Junta de Comisionados del Condado está programada para seleccionar el 3 de diciembre un nuevo Presidente y Vicepresidente.
