Janer Hosts District 2 Parranda with Santa to Spread Holiday Cheer

Osceola County, Florida – For the second year in a row, County Commissioner Viviana Janer hosted a holiday event at the Robert Guevara Community Center aimed at brightening the lives of District 2’s youngest residents.
“This event is simple enough – just some music, refreshments and gifts, yet the fellowship we create during the event brings joy to all those who were here,” said Janer, who was selected Chairwoman of the Commission earlier this month. “It’s great to see the eyes of a child light up at this time of the year. And it’s great to see the stress melt from the faces of adults. I’m happy to be able to facilitate an event like this and I’m thankful to all those who made it possible.”
The 3-hour “Parranda with Santa” would not have been complete without a visit from Santa Claus. Parents took the opportunity to snap photos of their children with St. Nick – and surprise special guests, characters from far, far away, the Star Wars Universe.
“I think this is a great idea for them to do this for the community, to give out to the kids, and the kids who, some of them are less fortunate, for them to receive gifts and meet Santa Claus and Star Wars characters,” said Madeline Perez, who brought her daughter Makenzie to the event, and said it was a way to build community spirit. “It’s exciting, she is really looking forward to getting more gifts for Christmas in a few days.”
Parrandas are traditional, carnival-like celebrations that feature music and other festivities that are common around the holidays in Puerto Rico and other Caribbean communities.

Janer celebra Parranda con Santa para compartir el espíritu navideño en el Distrito 2
Condado de Osceola, Florida – Por segundo año consecutivo, la Comisionada del Condado Viviana Janer organizó un evento de día de fiesta en el Centro Comunitario Robert Guevara con el propósito de traer alegria a los residentes más jóvenes del Distrito 2.
“Este es un evento muy sencillo – sólo música, refrigerios y regalos, pero el compañerismo y el ambiente familiar que creamos durante el evento obviamente trae alegría a todos los que están aquí”, dijo Janer, quien fue seleccionada a principios de mes como Presidenta de la Comisión. “Es maravilloso ver a los ojos de un niño y sentir lo alegres que están en esta época del año. Y es genial ver como la tensión de muchos adultos desaparece de sus caras cuando se une a esta celebración. Estoy feliz de poder facilitar un evento como este y estoy agradecida a todos los que lo hicieron posible”.
La parranda que duro unas 3 horas no habría sido completada sin una visita de Santa Claus. Los padres aprovecharon para tomar fotos de sus hijos con San Nicolás y la sorpresa de los invitados especiales, personajes de lejos, muy lejos – del universo de Star Wars.
“Pienso que es una gran idea hacer esto para la comunidad, dar a los niños, y a los niños que algunos son menos afortunados, recibir regalos y conocer a personajes de Santa Claus y Star Wars” dijo Madeline Pérez, quien trajo a su hija Mackenzie al evento y dijo que era una forma de edificar un espíritu de comunidad. “Es emocionante, dijo que “ella está deseando recibir más regalos de navidad en los próximos días”.
Las parrandas son las celebraciones tradicionales, con música como la de los carnavales y otras fiestas que son comunes alrededor de los días festivos en Puerto Rico y otras comunidades del Caribe.
