Janer Hosts Parranda with Santa to Spread Holiday Cheer

Osceola County, Florida – For the third year in a row, County Commissioner Viviana Janer hosted a “Paranda! with Santa” holiday event at the Robert Guevara Community Center aimed at brightening the lives of residents.
“This has become a signature event that is anticipated by the community and is a highlight for many residents,” said Janer. “I love the way we are able to bring hundreds of people together and provide them with an enjoyable time to relax with loved ones and to also socialize with members of the community. I’m thankful to all those who have made the event so successful over the last three years, including Disney, Florida Blue and the Florida Firefrogs. The event continues to grow bigger and better. I can’t wait for next year.”
More than 500 people were fed and as many children received toys, including basketballs, and themed items from the movies “Cars” and “Frozen,” as well as the “Doc McStuffins” TV show.
There was a skit by the Osceola County School for the Arts. The “Parranda! with Santa” would not have been complete without a visit from Santa Claus. Parents took the opportunity to snap photos of their children with St. Nick. Students from New Dimensions High School helped throughout the event, while attendees enjoyed the traditional percussion-driven music of Pleneros.
Parrandas are traditional, carnival-like celebrations that feature music and other festivities that are common around the holidays in Puerto Rico and other Caribbean communities.

Condado de Osceola, Florida – Por tercer año consecutivo, la Comisionada del Condado Viviana Janer celebró la “Parranda con Santa” un evento navideño en el Centro Comunitario Robert Guevara con el propósito de traer alegría a los residentes.
“Este evento se ha convertido en uno muy esperado e importante para comunidad,” dijo Janer. Me encanta la manera en que somos capaces de reunir a cientos de personas y brindarles un momento agradable para relajarse con los seres queridos y también socializar con los miembros de la comunidad. Estoy agradecida a todos aquellos que han hecho que el evento sea uno muy exitoso en los últimos tres años, incluyendo a Disney, Florida Blue y los Florida Firefrogs. El evento continúa creciendo y mejorando. Ya espero el próximo año”.
Más de 500 personas recibieron alimentos y muchos niños recibieron juguetes, incluyendo pelotas de baloncesto, artículos con temas de las películas "Cars" y "Frozen", así como del show de TV "Doc McStuffins".
La escuela de las Artes del Condado de Osceola hizo una escena de una obra teatral. La Parranda con Santa no hubiera estado completa sin una visita de Santa Claus. Los padres aprovecharon para tomar fotos de sus hijos con San Nicolás. Los estudiantes de la escuela secundaria New Dimensions ayudaron durante todo el evento, mientras que los asistentes disfrutaron de la música tradicional de Pleneros.
Las parrandas son las celebraciones tradicionales, tipo carnaval que caracterizan otras fiestas que son comunes alrededor de los días festivos en Puerto Rico y otras comunidades del Caribe.
