Osceola County Announces Test of Flood Alert Warning System

Osceola County, Florida – The Osceola County Public Works Department and the Office of Emergency Management will conduct a test of the Flood Alert Warning System between June 27 and July 26, 2019.
The purpose is to test the County’s alerting capability for all residents. In previous tests, only the Special Flood Hazard Areas received the alert; however, testing the new system countywide allows for an enhanced opportunity to fully test the system. This test is part of the Community Rating System criteria which brings lower flood insurance rates to the citizens. The testing will include residents in both the City of Kissimmee and the City of Saint Cloud.
Residents will receive a short telephone message. The message will state; this is a test, followed by information on what will occur if alerting is ever required. Since the system will only act upon phone numbers listed as public, not everyone will receive this message. In the event of a real emergency, the system will call all phone numbers, including those listed as private.
The testing ensures the County has a viable way to notify residents through the County Mass Notification System known as Alert Osceola powered by Everbridge.

El condado anuncia prueba de sistema de alerta de inundaciones
Condado de Osceola, Florida – El Departamento de Obras Públicas del Condado de Osceola y la Oficina de Administración de Emergencias llevarán a cabo una prueba del Sistema de Alerta de Inundaciones entre el 27 de junio y el 26 de julio, 2019.
El propósito es probar la capacidad de alerta del Condado para todos los residentes. En pruebas anteriores, solo las áreas especiales de riesgo de inundación recibieron la alerta; sin embargo, probar el nuevo sistema en todo el condado permite una mejor oportunidad para probar el sistema por completo. Esta prueba es parte del criterio del Sistema de Clasificación Comunitaria que ofrece a los ciudadanos tasas más bajas en los seguros contra inundaciones. Las pruebas incluirán a los residentes tanto en la Ciudad de Kissimmee como en la Ciudad de Saint Cloud.
Los residentes recibirán un corto mensaje telefónico. El mensaje indicará que la misma es una prueba, seguido por información sobre lo que ocurrirá si tal alerta es requerida. Puesto que el sistema solo funciona con números telefónicos registrados como públicos, no todos recibirán este mensaje. En el caso de suceder una emergencia real, el sistema llamará a todos los números telefónicos, incluyendo los que están registrados como privados.
La prueba asegura que el Condado tenga una forma viable para notificar a los residentes por medio del Sistema de Notificación Masiva del Condado, conocido como Alert Osceola, impulsado por Everbridge.
AlertOceola le permite al Condado conectarse directamente con los residentes en tiempos de emergencia – desde tormentas a inundaciones a huracanes.
