Osceola County Planning New Fire Station to Better Serve Residents of Buenaventura Lakes

Osceola County, Florida – A new fire station planned for Buenaventura Lakes will improve public safety for residents, while creating additional recreational opportunities.
“Public Safety is always our top priority. Osceola County cares about its residents and wants to protect them. A new station is overdue for our community and for our firefighters,” said Commissioner Viviana Janer, whose district includes BVL. “Ultimately, the new station is the most cost-effective way to make the community safer.”
The existing station will move about a third of a mile southeast to a location at the corner of Buenaventura Lakes Boulevard and Royal Palm Drive. It will sit on approximately 3 acres on the eastern edge of the 65th Infantry Veterans Park. This is a small footprint – and the rest of the park’s 31.33 acres will not be impacted.
In fact, Osceola County will add amenities to the park – including two new picnic shelters, domino tables, sidewalks and an areas for military memorials. There also will be a “caretaker effect” for the park because of the fire station’s 24/7 staffing.
“These improvements will be beneficial to those who use the park and will allow us to enhance the way we honor members of the 65th Infantry Regiment, also known as the Borinqueneers,” Janer added.
Additionally, the station will offer something new – a community room for small meetings. The County is also studying the best recreational uses for the old station site.
Built more than 30 years ago in 1985, the existing station pre-dates today’s full-time professional firefighting service. Most significantly the current wood-framed structure, built by volunteers, cannot withstand severe weather, meaning that firefighters must evacuate when the community needs them most.
In addition, there are some issues that can’t be fixed at the current location – the fact that the station is too close to the road makes it difficult for trucks to pull out, and there is no safe way for engines and rescues to exit in both directions.
Today’s vision is very different. At more than 12,000 square feet, the new station will be about 3,000 square feet larger and will feature a 4-bay design and be able to sustain winds of up to 150 mph when it opens in early 2018. As the second station to use the department’s new prototype design, the station will be environmentally friendly – with paint that has zero volatile organic compounds and lighting provided by energy-efficient LED lights. Construido en el 1985, la estación no está habilitada para servicios profesionales de bomberos a tiempo completo. La visión de hoy es muy diferente. Está será la segunda estación con nuevo diseño utilizando el prototipo ecológico del departamento, con pintura que tiene cero compuestos orgánicos volátiles y luces de energía eficiente LED.
