Osceola County Students Receive Scholarships

Osceola County, Florida - Twenty Osceola County students were recognized with scholarships Tuesday night as part of a Celebration of Hispanic Heritage held at Tupperware Brands headquarters.
"This event is exciting because we recognized outstanding students and, thanks to the Education Foundation of Osceola County, were able to award $20,000 in scholarships that will help them pursue their goals," said County Commissioner Viviana Janer. "I’m a huge believer in education, so it is really important to me that this year's event focused on the youth of our community."
The event was held in conjunction with Tupperware Brands and the Education Foundation of Osceola County, and included cultural music and dance.
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 through October 15. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded what was originally a week-long celebration started by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968. National Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to honor and celebrate the rich cultural contributions and traditions of the Hispanic-American community.
"As Hispanics, we love our country. Making America great hasn't always been easy or inclusive. We've accomplished this through hard work and the sweat of our labor," said Janer. "We've fought, bled and died for it - knowing that as Americans we share a set of common values."

Reciben becas estudiantes del Condado de Osceola
Condado de Osceola, Florida - Veinte estudiantes del Condado de Osceola fueron reconocidos la noche del martes con becas como parte de una Celebración de la Herencia Hispana celebrada en la sede de Tupperware Brands.
"Este evento es muy emocionante porque reconocemos estudiantes sobresalientes y gracias a la Fundación de Educación del Condado Osceola pudimos entregar $20,000 en becas lo que les ayudará a alcanzar sus metas", dijo la Comisionada Viviana Janer. "Creo fielmente en la educación y para mí ha sido realmente importante el habernos enfocado este año en la juventud de nuestra comunidad".
El evento se llevó a cabo en conjunto con Tupperware Brands y la Fundación de Educación del Condado Osceola el cual incluyó danza y música cultural.
El Mes de la Hispanidad se extiende desde el 15 de septiembre hasta el 15 de octubre. En 1988, el Presidente Ronald Reagan amplió la celebración original de una semana de duración iniciada por el Presidente Lyndon Johnson en 1968. El Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana es una oportunidad para honrar y celebrar las ricas tradiciones y contribuciones culturales de la comunidad Hispanoamericana.
"Como hispanos, amamos nuestro país. El hacer de América un gran lugar no siempre ha sido fácil o inclusivo. Hemos logrado esto a través de trabajo duro y el sudor de nuestro trabajo”, dijo Janer. “Hemos luchado, sangrado y muerto por él, sabiendo que como americanos compartimos un conjunto de valores comunes".
