Arrington Throws Out 1st Pitch on Multi-million Dollar Expansion

Osceola County, Florida – Osceola County District 3 Commissioner Brandon Arrington officially opened a new and improved Vance Harmon Park Thursday night in Poinciana.

In less than two years, the County has invested more than $11 million on the complex.

“I’m excited that we are adding new recreational opportunities for residents. I’ve always advocated options that help our citizens to live a better and more active lifestyle – and this improved park is a good way to increase our level of healthiness – and to socialize with friends, family and neighbors,” said Arrington, who threw out the first pitch on the revitalized softball fields. “Now that it is complete, the complex provides for much better experiences with a wide range of uses available to all the residents of Poinciana.”

Phase II improvements featured new amenities such as playgrounds for 5-12 year olds and 2-5 year olds, beach volleyball space, dog parks for large and small dogs and new fencing.

Improvements to existing amenities were made to the basketball and pickleball courts, softball and football fields. And additional parking means more people can use the new facilities.

Phase 1, which opened in 2017, focused on the Mary Jane Arrington Gym and Aquatic Center.

The Mary Jane Arrington Gym and Aquatic Center is about 16,000 square feet in size, and includes a gym, fitness room, meeting rooms, locker rooms and a warming kitchen. Outside, features include a fitness trail around the pond, a multi-use lawn for sports and outdoor activities, an event lawn and an outdoor pavilion. The pool has 8-lap lanes that are 25-yards long, and a 12-foot deep dive well with two boards. The pool can also be set up for water polo.
