SUSTAINABILITY ACTION PLAN

Developed in 2012, this plan set goals for instituting a sustainability program at the County. Progress has been made in a number of areas – establishing the Sustainability Office will ensure continued implementation of this Plan.

STRATEGIES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Adopted by the County in 2017, this plan addresses key issues facing the County, include fiscal sustainability, lack of affordable housing, homelessness, and jobs-housing balance.

OSCEOLA GREEN INITIATIVE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN ELEMENT

In 2020, the County adopted a new element in the Comprehensive Plan to update and expand on the 2012 SAP. The Element includes goals, objectives, and policies (GOPs) designed to mitigate the impacts of climate change. These GOPs are organized by the following objectives: planning and management; shifting transportation demand; increasing energy efficiency; waste reduction and recycling; and enhancing ecological resilience.

URBAN FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN

The Strategies for a Sustainable Future report recommended developing an Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) to protect and enhance the County’s urban tree canopy. County staff collaborated with an UFMP Advisory Board to develop Osceola’s first UFMP. This plan provides a comprehensive, Countywide framework for long-term planning and care of the County’s urban forest.
