Osceola County Opens New $6 Million Station in BVL

Osceola County, Florida – A new $6 million fire station that opened in Buenaventura Lakes Wednesday improves public safety for residents and also honors the history of the 65th Infantry Regiment.
Members of the storied 65th, known as the Borinqueneers, were awarded a Congressional Gold Medal in 2014. The medal is one of the nation’s highest honors and is awarded to those “who have performed an achievement that has an impact on American history and culture.”
The 65th Infantry Regiment was a segregated unit of the U.S. Army, composed mainly of soldiers from the island of Puerto Rico that distinguished itself in World War I, World War II and Korea.
“This $6 million station is a sign of our commitment to the community – and the members of the 65th Infantry Regiment,” said Viviana Janer, the County Commissioner for District 2 where the station is located. “To build this station, we utilized a small, unused part of the existing 65th Infantry Regiment Park, so it seems right to dedicate the station to them.”
The 4-bay station will improve response time and is the second completed with the county’s cost-saving prototype design. In addition, the County made improvements to the existing park including: an improved parking lot, 2 pavilions, a restroom, an event stage, and the wonderful flag court area. This all adds to the usability of the park – and because of the caretaker effect of having the station next to the park – it should be safer, and less prone to vandalism.

Condado de Osceola, Florida – Una nueva estación de bomberos de $6 millones que se abrió el miércoles en Buenaventura Lakes mejora la seguridad pública para los residentes y también rinde homenaje a la historia del Regimiento 65 de Infantería.
Los miembros del ilustre 65, conocidos como los Borinqueneers, recibieron una Medalla de Oro del Congreso en el 2014. La medalla es uno de los honores más altos de la nación y se otorga a aquellos “que han realizado un logro que tiene un impacto en la historia y la cultura americana”.
El Regimiento 65 de Infantería era una unidad segregada del Ejército de los Estados Unidos compuesta principalmente por soldados de la isla de Puerto Rico que se distinguieron en la Primera y Segunda Guerra Mundial y Corea.
“Esta estación de $6 millones es un signo de nuestro compromiso con la comunidad – y los miembros del Regimiento 65 de Infantería”, dijo Viviana Janer, la Comisionada del Condado para el Distrito 2 donde se encuentra la estación. “Para construir esta estación, se usó una pequeña parte no utilizada del Parque del Regimiento 65 de Infantería, lo que hace correcto dedicar la estación a ellos”.
La estación de 4 bahías mejorará el tiempo de respuesta y será la segunda completada con el diseño del prototipo de ahorro de costos del condado. Además, el Condado hizo mejoras al parque incluyendo: un estacionamiento mejorado, 2 pabellones, un baño, espacio para tarima, y la maravillosa área de las banderas. Todo esto se suma al uso del parque – y debido al efecto de tener a alguien en la estación al lado del parque – debería ser más seguro y menos propenso al vandalismo.
