Simpson Road North
The design and construction of this Project is based on the results of the Project Development and Environment Study (PD&E) that was performed for the County, which included presenting alternatives at a Public Workshop and a Preferred Alternative at a Public Hearing. The roadway is currently over-capacity resulting in significant delays at signalized intersections. The typical section for reconstructing Simpson Road from 2-lanes to a divided 4-lane roadway includes a 26-foot median and a 10-foot shared use path for bicycles and pedestrians on each side of the roadway. During the design phase of Project development, the Simpson Road improvements were split into North and South sections, but will be constructed simultaneously along with improvements planned for the Fortune-Simpson intersection. The North section of the Project extends from Osceola Parkway to Harbor Town Drive, connecting to both the Simpson 1 and Simpson South projects on either end. Stormwater ponds are included in the Project’s design, as well as street lighting, upgraded signalized intersections, and areas preserved for landscaping.
