Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (1 Position) – Category, Citizen of Osceola County - Not less frequently than every three (3) years, the advisory committee shall review the established policies and procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, and adopted local government comprehensive plan of the appointing local government and shall recommend specific actions or initiatives to encourage of facilitate affordable housing while protecting the ability of the property to appreciate in value.
Code Enforcement Board (3 Positions) – General Contractor, Businesspeople - The Code Enforcement Board shall be empowered to hear and adjudicate cases presented before them on matters involving codes and ordinances adopted by the Osceola County Commission. It is the intent of the Board of County Commissioners, by adopting Chapter 7 of the Osceola County Code of Ordinances, to provide an equitable, expeditious, effective and inexpensive method of enforcing the County’s Code and Ordinances. Examples of some of the Codes the Code Board hears are occupational license violations, building code, fire, mechanical, electrical and plumbing codes, zoning and sign ordinance violations and other various codes and ordinances. The Code Board is comprised of seven (7) members who shall be residents of the County and who shall be appointed by the Board of County Commission based on experience or interest in the subject jurisdiction of the Board. Pursuant to Florida Statute the membership of the Code Board shall, whenever possible, consist of the following: Architect, Businessperson, Engineer, General Contractor, Subcontractor or Realtor. The Code Enforcement Board typically meets the third (3rd) Wednesday of every month at 3:00pm in the Board Chambers located on the fourth (4th) floor of the Administration Building.
Library Advisory Board (1 Position) – At-Large The Osceola County Library Advisory Board is a citizen’s advisory board organized primarily for the purpose of aiding the Board of County Commissioners to advise them regarding various aspects of the Osceola County Library system. Requirements for Membership: The Osceola County Library Advisory Board consists of seven members. Each County Commissioner may nominate one member from his/her respective district for membership to the Advisory Board. The Board of County Commissioners shall also appoint two (2) at-large members. When practicable, one (1) of the members shall be a member of the Friends of the Library group and one (1) of the members shall be a member of the Osceola County Bar Association. An affirmative vote of a majority of the quorum of the Board of County Commissioners shall be required before a nominee is appointed. Must reside in Osceola County. Meetings Time and Location: The Library Advisory Board meets quarterly, usually on the first Tuesday evening in the months of March, June, September, and December. Meetings rotate between the five full-service library branches, with the meeting locations announced on the County website.
Osceola County Lakes Advisory Committee (6 Positions) – Commission Districts 1 to 3. Osceola County recognizes the need to protect and restore lakes and waterways for future generations. Osceola County lakes are valuable economic resources for business, tourism, and local governments. Lakes, ponds, and riverine systems in Osceola County remain important natural resources we enjoy by providing sources of recreation, scenic beauty, and habitat for many different types of wildlife. The purpose of the Osceola County Lakes Advisory Committee is to assist County Staff in efforts to inform the Public of Lakes Management activities and the importance of Osceola County’s Lakes and Waterways; assist in efforts promoting ecotourism and maintenance of public access to water bodies in Osceola County; serve in an advisory capacity; prepare an annual report for staff to present to the Board of County Commissioners. The Lake Advisory Committee will provide input and recommendations to County staff. Members will offer opinions, expertise, and/or guidance. They will not direct staff or make policy decisions. The Committee will be made up of ten (10) members. Each member of the Board of County Commissioners will appoint 2 committee members to their Commission District. Must be a resident of Osceola County for the entire term and reside in the Commission District. Each member is appointed for a four-year term.
Planning Commission (1 Position)—District 2. Members of the Planning Commission act as the Local Planning Agency, a state mandated review board. Commissioners shall be knowledgeable in the field of comprehensive planning and shall be familiar with the Osceola County Comprehensive Plan, the Osceola County Land Development Code, and other applicable regulations. The Planning Commission reviews proposed land development regulations and codes as well as the Local Comprehensive Plan and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners. Must reside in County Commission District 2. Typically meets the 1st Thursday of each month. Terms are four (4) years unless it is to fill a vacant position.
SunRail Customer Advisory Committee (2 Positions)—Osceola County Representative. The SunRail Customer Advisory Committee was created to provide customers of Central Florida’s Commuter Rail Transit service with an advisory voice in all aspects of SunRail’s operation. When SunRail service opened in Osceola County in July of 2018, The Osceola County Board of County Commissioners was tasked with appointing two representatives to the 10-member committee, joining representatives from Volusia, Seminole and Orange Countries as well as the City of Orlando. Criteria: Residents must live in Osceola County, ride the SunRail at least three days a week during a typical week, attend a minimum of 4 public meetings annually, represent Osceola County in a professional and courteous manner, coordinate information with Osceola County as requested, adhere to all “Government in the Sunshine” laws. Meetings and Location: The SunRail Customer Advisory Committee meets every quarter, on the first Thursday of the month, at 5:00 p.m. - LYNX Central Station in downtown Orlando.
