Commissioner Brandon Arrington Champions Pet Safety with Free Microchipping Event in Poinciana

Osceola County, Florida – Demonstrating his continued commitment to public service and community well-being, Osceola County District 3 Commissioner & Vice Chairman Brandon Arrington hosted a free pet microchipping event on Saturday, May 31, at Valencia College’s Poinciana Campus.

In partnership with Osceola County Animal Services, the initiative successfully microchipped 114 pets, including both cats and dogs, despite rainy weather conditions.

The event was designed to support responsible pet ownership while providing residents with an accessible resource to help safeguard their pets. Microchipping is a proven and effective tool that dramatically increases the chances of lost pets being safely returned to their families.

Microchips significantly increase the chances of a lost pet being returned to their owner. In one study, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) found that microchipped dogs were returned to their owners 52.2% of the time, while non-microchipped dogs were returned 21.9% of the time. The return rate for microchipped cats was 38.5%, compared to only 1.8% for non-microchipped cats.

“This initiative is part of our broader mission to connect residents with meaningful resources and ensure all members of our community, including pets, are protected and cared for,” said Vice Chairman Brandon Arrington.

Tents were set up to keep attendees and volunteers dry and safe as trained staff administered microchips and distributed educational materials on pet care and safety. Pet owners were also encouraged to complete their registration through myPetHealth.com, enabling easy tracking in case their pet is lost in the future.

Osceola County Animal Services joined Commissioner Arrington at the event to raise awareness about pet safety and the importance of permanent identification. The event reflects the County’s ongoing efforts to engage residents in proactive, preventative measures that benefit the community.
