Florida Implements Permanent Sales Tax Exemption on Hurricane Supplies Starting August 1

Beginning Friday, August 1, Florida residents will no longer have to wait for limited-time tax holidays to stock up on hurricane essentials. Under the new state budget signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, a permanent sales tax exemption is now in place for select disaster preparedness supplies.

This new policy replaces the temporary tax holidays previously offered and aims to make it easier and more affordable for Floridians to stay prepared year-round. Items such as batteries, tarps, and portable generators are among those eligible for the exemption.

Permanent sales tax exemptions on the following items starting August 1. 2025:

  • Batteries
  • Portable Generators
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
  • and more!
