Osceola County Dedicates Bishop Gary D. Gray Park in Honor of ...

Bishop Gary D. Gray spent more than four decades serving the Marydia community through faith, advocacy, and hands-on outreach. His commitment to community service was deeply influenced in his youth after witnessing a tragic house fire on Garden Street that claimed the lives of four children—an experience that strengthened his resolve to support families and promote neighborhood safety. 

During his more than 20 years of leadership at New Hope Community Church of Marydia, Bishop Gray not only preached and mentored, but also worked to meet practical needs. He helped expand food distribution efforts that reached families beyond Marydia, supported affordable childcare options for working parents, and consistently spoke up for investments in the neighborhood—including improvements such as the park and community center. 

He was also known for bringing people together through holiday celebrations and community gatherings, often partnering with local organizations to ensure children and families experienced hope and joy. 

Above all, Bishop Gray valued family. He was a devoted husband to Charlotte Gray and a proud father to Tamika Holley and Consuela Morris. Throughout the community, he was regarded as a steady presence, mentor, and advocate. 

"His legacy lives on in the lives that he has touched, the community he strengthened, and the faith he modeled. So therefore, it is fitting that today we are going to dedicate this park to Bishop Gary D. Gray." said Commissioner Cheryl Grieb, Vice Chairwoman of the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners.

The dedication ceremony celebrated not only the unveiling of a new sign, but the continued strength and unity of the Marydia community. 

El obispo Gary D. Gray paso más de cuatro décadas sirviendo a la comunidad de Marydia a través de la fe, la defensa de los derechos y la ayuda comunitaria. Su compromiso al servicio de la comunidad fue grandemente influenciado al haber sido testigo de un incendio domestico en Grant Street que reclamo la vida de cuatro niños—una experiencia que fortaleció su determinación en apoyar y promover la seguridad comunitaria. 

Durante sus más de 20 años de liderazgo en la New Hope Community Church de Marydia, el obispo Gray no solo predicó y asesoró, sino que también trabajo para satisfacer las necesidades prácticas. El ayudó a expandir los esfuerzos para la distribución de comidas que llegaron mucho más allá de Marydia, apoyó opciones de cuido infantil asequible para las familias trabajadoras, y constantemente abogó por inversiones en su comunidad—incluyendo mejoras como el parque y el centro comunitario.  

También se le conocía por unir a las personas en las fiestas navideñas y las reuniones comunitarias, a menudo colaborando con organizaciones locales para asegurarse que los niños y las familias experimentaran esperanza y alegría.   

Por sobre todas las cosas, el obispo Gray valoraba a la familia. Fue esposo devoto de Charlotte Gray y padre orgulloso de Tamika Hollis y Consuela Morris. En toda la comunidad, se le consideraba una presencia constante, un mentor y defensor de derechos. 

“Su legado sigue vigente en las vidas que tocó, la comunidad que fortaleció y la fe que él modelo. Por tal motivo, es apropiado que hoy dediquemos este parque al obispo Gary D. Gray,” expreso la Comisionada Cheryl Grieb, Vicepresidenta de la Junta de Comisionados del Condado de Osceola. 

La ceremonia de dedicación no solo celebró la develación del nuevo letrero, sino también la fortaleza y unidad continua de la comunidad de Marydia.
