An Initial Appearance is the first court hearing where a judge decides bond and/or pretrial release conditions. However, release may be denied in certain situations. For example, if the defendant violated probation, failed to appear in court, faces charges punishable by life or death, or if the State Attorney’s Office demonstrates that releasing the defendant would endanger the public.
Judges from both Orange and Osceola Counties rotate responsibility for conducting these hearings. Initial Appearances are typically held Monday through Friday at 1:30 p.m., and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays at 10:30 a.m.
