Commissioner Brandon Arrington Honors 2024 Athletes of the Year

The District 3 Commissioner hosted a banquet to honor Osceola County’s top student-athletes with scholarships.
Commissioner Brandon Arrington hosted a special banquet at the Osceola Council on Aging to celebrate the county’s top high school athletes and officially announce the 2024 Athletes of the Year. This year’s honorees - Espn Pool, a senior golfer from St. Cloud High School, and Lailana Decker, a senior cross-country runner from St. Cloud High School - each received a $2,500 scholarship to support their academic and athletic pursuits.
The event welcomed more than 50 attendees, including student-athletes, their families, and community leaders, all gathered to recognize the dedication, perseverance, and talent of Osceola County’s young athletes.
A Yearlong Celebration of Excellence
For the past year, Commissioner Arrington’s Athlete of the Week program, in partnership with the Osceola News-Gazette, has shined a spotlight on the county’s top athletes across a variety of sports, including football, volleyball, golf, swimming, soccer, and more.
A total of 50 student-athletes, 25 females and 25 males, were named Athlete of the Week, selected by local sports coaches based on performance, skill, and sportsmanship. Each honoree was featured in the Osceola News-Gazette in recognition of their achievements.
The community played a vital role in determining this year’s top athletes, with more than 7,000 people casting their votes online through the Osceola News-Gazette’s website. After weeks of voting, Pool and Decker emerged as the 2024 Athletes of the Year.

El Comisionado del Distrito 3 celebra un evento especial para reconocer a los mejores estudiantes-atletas del Condado Osceola.
El Comisionado Brandon Arrington organizó un evento especial en el Osceola Council on Aging para rendir homenaje a los mejores atletas de las escuelas secundarias del condado y anunciar oficialmente a los Atletas del Año 2024. Este año, los honores fueron para Espn Pool, golfista de St. Cloud High School, y Lailana Decker, corredora de cross-country de St. Cloud High School, quienes recibieron cada uno una beca de $2,500 para apoyar sus estudios y desarrollo deportivo.

Un Año de Reconocimientos Deportivos

En total, 50 estudiantes-atletas (25 mujeres y 25 hombres) fueron reconocidos como Atletas de la Semana, seleccionados por entrenadores deportivos locales en función de su rendimiento, habilidad y espíritu deportivo. Cada homenajeado fue presentado en el Osceola News-Gazette en reconocimiento a sus logros.
La comunidad también tuvo un papel clave en la selección de los ganadores de este año, con más de 7,000 votos emitidos en línea a través del sitio web del Osceola News-Gazette. Tras semanas de votación, Pool y Decker fueron elegidos como los Atletas del Año 2024.
